FILL THE BOTTLE

Whenever making a shot, think through every aspect of it before you address the ball. I.e assess the lie and have good distance response to ensure you select the right club. Allow for the wind etc, and choose your alignment correctly. Make sure you fill the bottle so there in no room of extra thoughts!

In conclusion try to run through all aspects of the shot before you pick a club out of your bag. This will allow you to become more confident over the ball and less chance of negative thoughts developing.

PRE-SHOT ROUTINES

Every type of golf shot you play warrants a solid pre-shot routine. There is also no generic way to do it, so finding a routine that works best for you and sticking to it can help you to reach that auto pilot mode. Eventually your approch to each shot will become very habitual, think of all the sucessful day to day movements we do in life without consciously thinking about it! This sub-concious state or auto pilot mode will help combat against nerves, emotions, coflicting thoughts and block out external factors.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONING

Achieving better performance will mean changing how your club and body move during the swing. It is very easy for a golf coach to put you on the right road to achieving change and could have great success, but the pupil will almost always be restricted by their body’s inability to physically make desired movements throughout the swing. Thus reducing performance levels!

Ineffective body movements or lack of body control during the swing normally comes down to flexibility, strength and their related imbalances between the right and left side of the body. Repeatedly making an ineffective swing can often lead to short and long term injury with inconsistent results on the course.

Combining a stretching/strength routine with structured golf lessons will lead to a more effective swing and any implementation of change much easier. As hard as you may try to change a technical aspect of your swing you might be wasting valuable time and energy. If your body won’t let you because of its physical conditioning you will be fighting a losing battle!

Even very simple stretching or strength training programs could have a huge effect on your ability to create an effective golf swing and reduce your scores. This level of in-depth knowledge into your own ability is not just for elite players. It relates to players at any level.
